SOUTH BEND - Born Doris Ann Baylark on January 23, 1950, to the
late Mr. And Mrs. Johnnie and Bernice Baylark Sr., she was the
third of nine children. Doris was raised in Helena, Arkansas. She
graduated from Eliza Miller High School class of 1968. She
studied nursing at The University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff (UAPB).
Doris married her high school sweetheart, Spurgeon Hasan on
August 25, 1969. Of this union six children were born. The family
moved to South Bend in 1978, where she resided until her passing.
The couple dedicated their lives to the faith of Islam early in
the union. Doris was a devoted mother and wife; she was also a
great asset as a member of the South Bend community. Caring for
the future was not only the slogan for her business (Kiddi Garden
Day Care) which she operated for over 30 years -- it was truly
her passion. Doris was selfless, kind, and understanding. She
sacrificed often with no regrets. Doris saw your needs and tried
to meet them to the best of her ability. Mrs. Hasan is survived
by her husband of 42 years, Spurgeon; six children, Andrea Tobar,
Julian (Simore) Hasan, Nikesha (Charles) Boyd, and Talib Hasan,
all of South Bend, Terra Cotton of Elkhart, and Kenya (Gregory)
Hawkins of Columbus, OH; 18 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Betty Darnell, Rose Buford,
David Baylark, all of Helena, AR, Earline Baylark, Steven Baylark
and Danelle Baylark of Little Rock, AR, Carolyn Been of
Charlotte, NC, and Johnnie Baylark Jr. Of Downers Grove, IL.
Hosts of other family members and friends are left to cherish her
memory always. Doris was definitely loved and will truly be
missed. Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Ann Hasan will be held at
