Frederick B. Harwood, 81, of South
Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:58 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, in
Memorial Hospital. She was born on Dec. 29, 1919, in Elkhart,
Ind., to Charles and Maude (Stutzman) Harwood.
On July 4, 1947, he married the former Leona
Mae Lauby, who preceded him in death on March 15, 1996.
Surviving him are his daughters, Susan (Milton) Shisler of
South Bend, Barbara (Don) Horvath of Granger, Ind., and
Laura Clark of Galien, Mich.; sons, Paul (Kay) Ostrom
of Colorado Springs, Colo., Charles (Cheryl) Ostrom and Andrew
Harwood of South Bend; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Wanda) Harwood
of Charleston, S.C.; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Glick of
Elkhart., Ind.
Mr. Harwood was a master tool and die maker
and retired from Bendix after more than 40 years service. He was
also a certified and registered watch maker. He served in the
Army Air Corps during World War II, was a member of the American
Legion LaRue Messenger Post, Niles, Council Oak Lodge #745
F&AM Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and
the Avalon Grotto. Frederick was a longtime member of Community
Congregational Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, March 2, in the Welsheimer North Funeral Home, 17033
Cleveland Road, with Rev. Paul Blend, pastor of Community
Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Saint
Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends are invited to
visit with family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 1, in
the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community
Congregational Church.
