Russell M. Hartz, 98, of South Bend, Ind., passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 30, at his home in Southfield Village, South Bend. He was born May 16, 1906, in Weatherly, Pa., to Herbert and May (Mack) Hartz.
He came to South Bend in January 1928 and married Emily Shafer on June 2, 1928. He is survived by his wife, Emily; four sons, Russell Jr. of Monroe, Conn., Melvin of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Duane of Sarasota, Fla., and David of Niles, Mich.; two daughters, Elaine Patzke of South Bend and Janice Tumbleson of Dowagiac, Mich.; a brother, Paul of White Haven, Pa.; and a sister, Cora of Washington, D.C. He has 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hartz was service manager at a Chrysler dealership and retired in 1971. He was a dedicated member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered by all for his devotion to his family and his great sense of humor.
There will be no visitation. A private family service will be held in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, Ind.
