Robert Dale Hartman, 83, residing on
East Fourth Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a brief
illness at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, June 30, in his home. Mr. Hartman
retired from farming in 1953 and was employed as a factory
worker, retiring in May 1982 from South Bend Lathe. He was born
on Jan. 12, 1919, in Madison Township, St. Joseph County, Ind.,
to the late Harvey M. and Cora (Kindig) Hartman, and was a
lifetime area resident.
In 1941, in Elkhart County, Ind., he married
Dorothy Lucille Hartman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4,
1965. Then, on Aug. 14, 1965, in Mishawaka, he married Helen N. Malcolm,
who preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1999. Mr. Hartman was also
preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Wise and Kathryne
Walker; and by three brothers, Carl, Floyd and William
Hartman. Mr. Hartman is survived by his daughter and son-in-law,
Carol and James Niles of Mishawaka; his son and
daughter-in-law, David and Donna Hartman of Mishawaka; four
stepsons, Walter (Pauline) Szlanfucht of South Bend, Jack
(Shirley) Szlanfucht of Osceola, Ind., Bill (Karen) Peak
of New London, N.C., and Larry (Vicky) Peak of South Bend; and by
six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Mr. Hartman was a former member of Cedar
Road Missionary Church, Osceola. His hobbies included stock-car
racing, fishing, yard work and farming.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday, July 5, in the Palmer Funeral Homes, River Park, 2528
Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. John Garrison, minister, will
officiate. Family will receive friends two hours prior to
services on Friday in the funeral home. Graveside services and
burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions
in memory of Mr. Hartman may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph
County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
