Herman J. Hartman, 84, of Rochester,
Ind., died following a long illness at his residence on Olson
Road on Saturday, January 11, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. The son of Albert
Henry and Arelia Fox Hartman, Herman was born on March 2,
1912, in Monterey, Ind. He was a 1930 graduate of Monterey High
School and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during WW
II.
On Aug. 10, 1946, in South Bend, Ind., he
was married to Ethel S. Slack, who survives his death with
their daughter, Patricia Dryden Leach of Indianapolis,
Ind.
Herman and Ethel moved to the Leiters Ford,
Ind., area from South Bend in 1975 when he retired from the White
Farm Equipment Company, South Bend. He was a member of the
Leiters Ford Lions Club and attended the Leiters Ford United
Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife and daughter, Herman
is survived by two grandsons, D. Bryce Dryden of
Gaithersburg, Md., and M. Blair Dryden of Chicago, Ill. Other
survivors are four sisters and a brother: Agnes Hartman,
Monterey, Ind., Dorothy Morrison, Apache Junction, Ariz.,
Mildred Simpson, Higginsville, Mo., Gertrude Hahn,
Apache Junction, Ariz., and Winfred Hartman, Monterey, Ind.
Herman was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers,
Margaret Kleckner, Rosella Sullivan, Martha Serek,
and Joseph and Raymond Hartman.
There will be no visitation. Memorial
services conducted by Pastor Dorothy Jones of the Leiters Ford
United Methodist Church will be held at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, on Wednesday,
January 15, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery,
Plymouth. Memorial gifts may be made to the Leiters Ford United
Methodist Church, Leiters Ford, Ind.
