Bernice A. Hartman, 69, of South
Ironwood Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:08 a.m. on
Friday, June 11, in Hospice House, South Bend. Mrs. Hartman was
born on Jan. 14, 1930, in South Bend, to the late Fred H. and
Nora Penrod Nordblad, and had remained in this
community all of her life. She was also preceded in death by a
brother, Jack Nordblad in July 1988.
She was a registered licensed practical
nurse having graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing. She was
employed for 13 years at Portage Manor as a licensed practical
nurse, and retired in 1995 from the Signature Group. She served
for 25 years as the 3rd District Democratic Precinct Committee
Person in the 7th Precinct.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Judy and Ed DeCraene of South Bend; two
granddaughters, Dawn (Troy) Grabowski of Granger, Ind., and Myra
DeCraene of Mishawaka, Ind.; two great-granddaughters, Allison Grabowski
and Tara Grabowski; a sister, Pat (Jim) McCrum of South
Bend; and by two brothers, Fred Nordblad, Jr., of South Bend and
Ray (Edie) Nordblad of Indianapolis, Ind.
Memorial services for Mrs. Hartman will be
at noon on Monday, June 14, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528
Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Loren VanOort of Christ the
King Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Mrs. Hartman's
body will be donated to the Indiana University Medical Center,
State Anatomical Board. The family will receive friends from one
hour prior to services on Monday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
