Susan M. Harris (Sept. 8, 1946 -- Oct. 26, 2006)

Susan "Susie" Mae (Danch) Harris, 60, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 26, 2006.

Susan was born to Alfred J. and Vera P. Danch on September 8, 1946, in South Bend and was an area resident for her entire life. She graduated from Riley High School in 1963 at the age of 16 as a result of her drive and determination that was such a wonderful part of her personality. Susan then attended Purdue University and started her professional life at Associates. She also worked at Jim Carroll & Associates Public Relations Firm, Kordell, Microscreen and finally 1st Source Bank. In the meantime, she worked at her parents business, the 700 Bar on West Indiana Avenue in South Bend.

Susie married her loving husband, Robert, on December 24, 1972. He survives his loving wife along with her stepsons, Robert Harris Jr. and Jeff (Carol) Harris; her brother, John (Jan) Danch; sisters, Lynn M. Danch and Debbie (Kevin) Johnson; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and her beautiful cat, Kara Jane. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, a stepdaughter, Peggy, a nephew, Sean Johnson, and her loving cat, Ivan Catovich.

Susie was an avid lover of pandas and belonged to the National Wildlife Society, the Smithsonian Institute, The Audobon Society and many other organizations.

Susie battled cancer for five years and had received a "Clean Bill of Health" on October 25, 2006. She was an avid reader and loved garage sales, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army.

She will be sorely missed as the "Mini Matriarch" of our family and the Go To Person for anyone that had a problem. Rest Peacefully Susie, we love you.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2006, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the American Cancer Society.

SOUTH BEND -- Susan M. "Susie" Harris, 60, died Thursday in Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, Robert L.; two stepsons, Robert Harris Jr. of Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, and Jeff Harris of South Bend; two sisters, Lynn Danch of Niles and Debbie Johnson of South Bend; and a brother, John Danch of South Bend. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
