SOUTH BEND - Jennie Beatrice Harris, 85, affectionately
known as "Aunt Bea" or "Bea,"
was born to the late Ernest and Stella Shaw in Hope,
Arkansas, on November 15, 1922. She accepted Christ at an early
age and was baptized at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Hope, Arkansas.
Jennie had three loving sisters, Willie Whisonaut of South
Bend, Thelma Muldrow and Helen Rogers, both
deceased. She and her sisters spoke every day and now their
conversation will continue in Heaven.
She was united in holy wedlock to George
"Boy" Harris on July 17, 1942. He also was from Hope,
Arkansas. Jennie Bea and George moved to South Bend, Indiana, in
1943. Although there were no children from this union, they were
both instrumental in raising their nieces and nephews. George
preceded her in death. Jennie was employed by Memorial Hospital
and retired after 28 years of service. She was a faithful member
of Greater New Vision Baptist Church of South Bend, IN, where she
served on the Usher Board. Her church members remained supportive
after she was unable to attend services. Jennie quietly departed
this life to go home to glory on Saturday, May 17, at 4:50 a.m.
Jennie leaves to cherish and embrace her memory her loving
sister, Willie Whisonaut, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends who all loved and will miss her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie B. Harris
will be Thursday, May 22; visitation will be at 10 a.m. and
funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702
Lincoln Way West. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South
Bend. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with the
arrangements.
