South Bend Clarence M. Hi Harris, 92, of Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle, and formerly of South Bend, died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton Grove.
Mr. Harris was a former principal of Lincoln School and in 1965 he retired as director of elementary education for the South Bend Community School Corp.
He was born Sept. 9, 1898 in Muskegon, Mich., moving to South Bend in 1925 from North Muskegon.
In July 1944, in South Bend, he married Frances Surface who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Julie Kreitzman of South Bend; a son, Joseph W. of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Goldie Becker and Marjorie Breeden, both of Muskegon.
He was a graduate of Ferris Institute High School, Big Rapids, Mich. He received his bachelors degree from Western Michigan State Teachers College, received his masters degree from the University of Michigan, and also studied at the University of Chicago and Indiana University.
He was a member of the Hamilton Grove United Methodist Church and also served on the worship committee. He was past president of the South Bend Kiwanis Club and past chairman of the North Central Division of Indiana Teachers Association.
Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Welsheimer Funeral Home North.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton Grove or the Community Congregational Church.

Memorial services for Clarence M. Hi Harris, 92, of Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle, and formerly of South Bend, died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton Grove, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hamilton Chapel.
Cremation will take place.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Welsheimer Funeral Home North.

Editor: The marriage date is in error, it was in 1932. His sister Marjorie Breeden died in Muskegon Nov. 19, 1999 at age 86, and his sister Goldie Bacher (not Becker) died in Muskegon Aug. 13, 2000 at age 96.
