Betty Lou Harman

SOUTH BEND - Betty Lou Harman, 80, passed away at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Healthwin. Betty was born on July 23, 1928, in South Bend, to Joseph and Constance (Janowiak) Piasecki. On April 30, 1949, Betty married Samuel L. Harman in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and he passed away on January 30, 2004. Also preceding her in death were a son, Jeffrey Harman, who passed away on March 13, 2003; seven sisters, Esther Prentkowski, Virginia Floor, Harriet Kolupa, Irene Siderets, Elenor Dixon, Sophie Hecklinski and Clara Gum; a brother, Frank Piechorowski; a great-grandson, Wilson Kelsey; and a daughter-in-law, Jan Harman. Betty is survived by her son, Dan Harman of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Jane (Harman) Aaron of Lakeville; five grandchildren, Hanna (Scott) Kelsey, Joshua Harman of Lakeville, Juli Harman of Honolulu, HI, Adam (Sarah) Harman of South Bend and Amy (Dwight Smith) Harman of Mishawaka; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Alison and Olivia Harman, Fletcher and Maxwell Kelsey, Sophia and Theoden Harman-Archambault; a sister, Josephine (Marcel) Coryn of Mishawaka; and family friends, Virginia Bowering, Jeanne and Jim Cassler, Karen and Archie Archambault. Betty worked for Uniroyal and retired from RACO. Betty loved spending time and fishing at Crooked Lake in Delton, MI, each summer with her family. She also enjoyed taking annual trips to Las Vegas with her husband, Sam, and going to the Blue Chip Casino. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The family would like to thank Hospice and the staff at Healthwin for their care in the past four months. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Cremation will take place with burial at Southlawn Cemetery at a later date.
