Mr. Herbert J. Hardin Jr., 52, of West Indiana Street, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in his residence. Herbert was born to Alberta Winston and T.H. Hardin in Shugualak, Miss., on Nov. 29, 1949. Mr. Hardin moved to South Bend, Ind., from Shugualak 15 years ago, and in 1994, on Sept. 17, he married Lavon Reed. Mr. Hardin was a member of Old Shiloh Baptist Church in Shugualak.

Herbert J. leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Alberta, Jessica and Quaniqa Hardin; a stepdaughter, Tandy Woodson, all of South Bend; two stepsons, Carlos Woods of Miami, Fla., and Derrick Woodson of Milwaukee, Wis.; his mother, Alberta Winston, and grandmother, Sura Frison, both of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Bester of Shugualak; two uncles, George and Reverend Sam Franklin Frison, both of South Bend; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Hardin was preceded in death by one sister, Clara Mae Hardin.

The family would like to give special thanks to Southern Care for the care they gave to our loved one. Services for Mr. Hardin will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 22, in Alford's Mortuary. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
