Kathryn C. Harden, 70, devoted loving
mother and grandmother, who resided on Chalfant Street, South
Bend, Ind., passed away peacefully after an extended illness on
Friday, Jan. 5, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Kathryn was born
on Sept. 6, 1930, to the union of Rubin and Mattie Wilson. On
March 31, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., she married Elmer R. Harden,
who preceded her in death.
Kathryn was a graduate of Central High
School and Kentucky State College. She was retired from the U.S.
Post Office and had also worked for The Family & Children's
Center, Social Security Hearings and Appeals Courts, and Real
Services Project Safe. She was a member of the Grace AME Zion
Church, where in earlier years she sang in the Gospel Chorus. She
leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Lesia Harden Ivory;
a son, Stephen R. Harden; and a granddaughter whom she adored,
Aubrey L. Ivory. She also had a very special cousin who was like
a sister to her, Mrs. Annell Waters; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the Grace AME Zion Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services in the church. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
