WALKERTON - Vernon H. ''Vern'' Hanson, 62, of 69455 LaPorte Trail, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after an illness. Mr. Hanson was a mechanical engineer. He was born April 21, 1932, in Chesterfield, Mo., moving to this area in 1970 from St. Louis.

On June 30, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., he married Shirley Lee Guittar. She survives with three daughters, Debra Hanson of Plymouth, Rebecca Singleton of North Liberty and Suzan Keck of Teegarden, Ind.; a son, Timothy P. of San Jose, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Walkerton Masonic Lodge 619. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
