Phillip E. Hannon

ANGOLA — Phillip Edward Hannon, 79, died following an extended illness on Thursday, Oct. 28.

He was born on July 16, 1920, at the home of his parents in Summitville, Ind. He moved to Lake Gage at Angola in 1975 after his retirement from the Delco Remy Division of General Motors where he worked as a pipefitter. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Middletown, Ind. He resided winters in Bradenton, Fla., since 1976. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1938. He also wrote poetry and liked to have a good time.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Angola, was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Ambrose Catholic Church of Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He served duty in the South Pacific and was discharged with honors in 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V. (Gross) Hannon, who he married on Feb. 16, 1946, in Lawrenceburg, Ind. He is also survived by three daughters, Donna K. (Thomas E.) Lewis of South Bend, Ind., Patricia L. Metcalf of Alexandria, and Vanessa M. (Bruce) Helming of Logansport, Ind.; a sister, Kathryn A. (Howard) Reddington, Jr., of Middletown; sister-in-law, Rosalie Hannon of Sarasota, Fla.; brother-in-law, Thomas (Ruth) Gross of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and by three nephews and many, many friends.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, in the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel, Anderson, Ind. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
