SOUTH BEND - Wayne M. Hankins, 79 died Tuesday afternoon. Surviving are his wife Jacqueline; sons David M. Hankins (Janet) of South Bend, and Robert G. Hankins (Karen) of Darien, IL; grandsons, Ryan and Kevin Hankins; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Hankins of Mishawaka. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 3rd in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North 17033 Cleveland Rd. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Clay Church.

SOUTH BEND - Wayne M. Hankins, 79 of South Bend passed away Tuesday Afternoon in his home. Born April 17, 1930, in South Bend to the late Clifford M. and Arvilla Mary (Leighty) Hankins. Also preceding him in death was a brother Glenn Hankins and a nephew Jeffrey Hankins. On July 28, 1956, Wayne married the former Jacqueline Dianne Turner they had 52 years together. Also left to cherish his memory are sons David M. Hankins (Janet) of South Bend, Robert G. Hankins (Karen) of Darien, IL; two grand sons Ryan and Kevin Hankins; sister-in-Law Phyllis Hankins of Mishawaka; three Nephews Michael Hankins, Timothy Hankins (Lisa), James Hankins (Jackie) and children James Hankins and Douglas Field. Jeffrey's widow. Regina and children Alexandra and Andrew Hankins. Also one grand dog Sammy. Wayne graduated from Riley High school and served in the United States Air Force and was discharged in 1954. In 1956 he began working for 1st. Bank and was an Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager retiring in 1991 with 35 years of service. He was a former member of Community Congregational Church where he served on the Board of Deacons, Trustees and Church treasurer. Wayne was a Charter member of the Roseland Rotary Club and Past President. The 31 Business Men's Club, Charter member of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club, was a member of Council Oaks Masonic Lodge #745 F&AM. He was also a member of the Martins A.M. Retiree Coffee Group. Visitation will be held Sunday January 3, 2010 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North 17033 Cleveland Rd. from 2 to 6 p.m. A Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday January 4th in the Clay Church 52866 N. Ironwood Dr., with Rev, Kim Bloom officiating. As his wishes cremation will take place and burial at a later date.
