SOUTH BEND - Ms. Mary E. Hankins, 61, who resided in South Bend,
Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Memorial
Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. Ms. Hankins was born to Steve and
Leara (McGlown) Hankins on February 7, 1949, in Oxford,
Mississippi, who both preceded her in death. She moved to South
Bend in 1972, coming from Chicago. She was a member of Greater
New Vision M.B. Church where she worked as a volunteer driver.
She was a seamstress and she could fix anything; her nickname was
"Mary Villa." Survivors left to cherish her
memory include her children, Bridget Hankins, and special
daughter, Mia Willis; brother, Willie (Dorothy) McGlown of South
Bend,I ndiana, George H. (Doris) Hankins of Allegan, Michigan;
sister, Katie Lee Fuller; two grandchildren, Kyshawna Olive and
Derrick Hankins; an aunt, A.D. Hawkins, all of South Bend,
Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. Ms. Hankins was
preceded in death by uncles, Rester McGlown, Ben McGlown, Emmitt
McGlown and Clinton McGlown; and by aunts, Lucille McGlown,
Jettie McGlown and Leara McGlown. Funeral services for Ms. Mary
E. Hankins will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010,
in New Horizons Outreach Ministry, 56165 Mayflower Road, South
Bend, Indiana. Viewing will be held in the church one hour prior
to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's
