SOUTH BEND - James E. Haney, 82, of Ridgewood Drive,
passed away at 5:12 p.m. Thursday, June 5th, in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, South Bend. James retired in 1977 from
the construction industry after 50 years. He was born on December
13, 1925, in Deming, New Mexico, to the late Charles E. and Anna
Marie (Paul) Haney, and had lived in South Bend most of
his life.
On January 4, 1947, in South Bend, he
married Florence A. (Feece) Haney, who survives. Also
surviving are a daughter, Diane M. (Richard) Dreher of
South Bend; three sons, Charles E. Haney of Lauderdale Lakes, FL,
James E. (Ingrid) Haney II of Milwaukee, WI, and Thomas E.
(Susan) Haney of South Bend; 10 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes (John) Johnston of
Morgantown, W.Va.; and a brother, Charles C. (Rosemary) Haney of
Littleton, CO. One sister, Lucille McGrath, and two
brothers, Leo and Roland J. Haney, preceded James in death.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00
a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. A good
friend, Bishop Miles Andrew, will officiate. James was a World
War II Air Force veteran and a licensed pilot. He was an avid
Notre Dame fan and enjoyed restoring cars. James was a member of
Christ the King Catholic Church, and his family thought he was a
model to the human race. Contributions in memory of James E.
Haney may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. Palmer Funeral Homes are in charge of
arrangements.
