SOUTH BEND - Mr. Clarence Lee Hampton was the oldest of 14
children. Mr. Hampton was born to the late Lewis Hampton and Mary
Fuqua on January 23, 1929, in Russellville, Kentucky, Logan
County. Clarence Hampton retired from the South Bend School
Corporation of Transportation. Mr. Clarence Hampton departed this
life at 10:00 p.m. on July 19, 2010, in Memorial Hospital of
South Bend, Indiana. He leaves to cherish his memory three lovely
daughters, Marketter Hampton, Gloria Jones and Ponze (Jerry)
Mack; five grandchildren, LaShawn Turner, Sebre Jones, Crystal
DeRamus, Darnell Johnson and Josiah, Mack; five
great-grandchildren, Christiana Abrams, Walter Abrams Jr., Rayon
Abrams, Christopher Jones and Quawmay Jones. Clarence was blessed
with six brothers. Two brothers preceded him in death. Surviving
are Leroy Hampton of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Leonard, Abra,
Dalmaria Hampton, all of Russellville, Kentucky. He was also
blessed with seven sisters. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Surviving are Geraldine Posey, Ruth Finch, Donita Smith, all of
Russellville, Kentucky, Aurora Hampton of Bowling Green,
Kentucky, and Elizabeth Taylor of Louisville, Kentucky. Clarence
was also blessed with three godchildren, Henry (Elaine) Jackson,
Eric Boyd and Ronnetta Black. Clarence was preceded in death by
his wonderful, precious wife, Mrs. Betty Hampton; his parents,
Lewis Hampton and Mary Fuqua; two stepmothers, Lucille Hampton
and Elnora Bell; siblings, Lucy Simmons and Sally Dixon, Robert
Woods and Clennie Backer; and one granddaughter, Laura Hampton.
Services for Mr. Hampton will be Monday, July 26, 2010, in the
Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and funeral services will be at
11 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
