SOUTH BEND – Miss Marie E. Hammes, 64, of 3020 N. Maple Hill Court, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday in Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home. Miss Hammes was a former registered nurse at St. Joseph's Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. She also was a former employee of Mayo Clinic and Indian Missions, Chamberlin, S.D., and taught at the Malawi (Africa) Hospital Nursing School.

 

She was born May 2, 1930, in Plymouth. She is survived by three sisters, Martha Shafer of Onsted, Mich., Clara Kovacs of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Sister Leona Hammes, CSC, of Elmwood, Ill.; and six brothers, Leo of Marengo, Ind., Charles of Mishawaka, Fred of South Bend, George of Leda, Ill., Peter J. of Indianapolis, and Henry E. of Elkhart. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's College.

 

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a wake will be at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
