Richard A. Hamlett, 70, of Rockford, died at 5:56 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 1996, in Swedish-American Hospital Emergency Room after a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 26, 1926, in Rochester, Ind. as the son of Phillip E. and Dessie (Sharp) Hamlett, he lived in Rockford for one year moving here from South Bend. Mr Hamlett married Jeanette ''Jane'' Heimbach in Rockford, Ill. on Dec. 16, 1995.
He was a self-employed building contractor. He served in World War II in the 82nd and 101st Airborne special forces. He also was an honor guard for General Dwight Eisenhower in Frankfort, Germany.
Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 32nd degree Mason, South Bend, Scottish Rite Bodies-South Bend and Veteran of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette ''Jane'' Hamlett of Rockford, a daughter, Pam Grace of Valparaiso, a son, Brent Hamlett of South Bend; three grandchildren; Brandon and Kristin Grace, both of Valparaiso and Chad Hamlett of South Bend, a stepson, John (Bonnie) Heimbach, of Rockford, a stepdaughter, Cynthia (Bill) Willis of Evansville, Ind., a stepgrandson, Matthew Heimbach of Rockford; and a brother, William Eugene Hamlett, of Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Smazik, pastor, and associate pastor, Mike Solberg co-officiating.
Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Arrangements by Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home, Ltd., Park Avenue at North Court Street. Memorials may be made to the family.
