SOUTH BEND - Ruth E. Hamilton, 92, of
Marquette Avenue, died at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital
of natural causes. Mrs. Hamilton was born Dec. 14, 1901, in
Pettit, Ind., and lived in South Bend since 1922, coming from
Frankfort, Ind.
On Sept. 29, 1920, in Frankfort, as Ruth E. Newhardt,
she married James Easton Hamilton. He died Dec. 11, 1989. She is
survived by three sons, Richard C. Hamilton of North Liberty,
Raymond C. Hamilton of Edwardsburg, and Dave L. Newhardt of South
Bend; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Service Circle,
Mizpah Sunday school class, a chairperson of Christian Social
Involvement, Food Pantry, Upper Room, and served on the advisory
board of the Upper Room, all of the First United Methodist
Church. She served on the executive board of Hamilton Grove
Retirement Community, New Carlisle, and was active in El Campito
and Budget Corner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the
church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Welsheimer
Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Upper Room of the church.
