SOUTH BEND - Eugene M. Hamilton, 84, of St. Joseph Street, died at 10:25 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Hamilton was a tool and die designer for Hansen Engineering Co. and retired from Littleton & Co. in 1973. He also had worked at Studebaker Corp. He was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Grant County, Ind., and lived in South Bend since 1942, coming from Elkhart.

On Nov. 1, 1935, in Mishawaka, he married Harriet A. Peterman. She died Jan. 21, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Fenn of West Lafayette, Ind.; a son, James A. of Canandaigua, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son preceded him in death. He was a member of Southlawn United Methodist Church, Elks Club, was a Hospice volunteer and a former president of Indiana State African Violet Association.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or the church.
