Mrs. Earnestine Hamilton, 82,
precious mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who lived on West
Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., passed from this life after
an extended illness at 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Hospice
House of Saint Joseph County. On Aug. 6, 1918, in Taylorsville,
Miss., she was born to the union of the late Ebb Pickering
and Zona (Blackmon) Pickering. Coming from West Point,
Miss., she had been a resident of South Bend since 1970, and was
a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church.
Loving family members who will cherish her
memory include four daughters, Beatrice Jenkins, Christine Coleman,
Bernice Hamilton and Helen J. Hamilton; seven sons, Willie (Ann)
Hamilton, J.W. Hamilton, James Earl Hamilton, all of South Bend,
Joe Wayne Hamilton of Alabama, Nathan Hamilton and Roosevelt
(Stephanie) Hamilton Jr., both of San Diego, Calif., and Charles
Hamilton of Kansas City, Mo.; 64 grandchildren, 50
great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren; a sister,
Frankie Owens of Taylorsville; six brothers, Nolan Pickering,
Lacy Pickering, Charles Pickering and Albert Pickering, all of
Taylorsville, A.C. Pickering of Delano, Calif., and A.B.
Pickering of Laurel, Miss.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Hamilton will be held at
11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, in Alford's Mortuary, followed by
interment at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior
to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's
Mortuary.
