Charles H. "Chuck,"
"Gunner" Hall, 74, of South Bend, Ind., has passed
from this life after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born
on Jan. 23, 1927, to Jesse and Jessie (Rhead) Hall.
Charles was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather,
great-grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death earlier this year
by his wife of 44 years, Leona Rose Hall. He leaves to cherish
his memory two sons, James (Deborah) Hall of Walkerton, Ind., and
Michael (Penny) Hall of Bloomfield, Ind.; a daughter, Charla
(Dave) Opfer of South Bend, Ind.; his grandchildren,
Nathaniel Hall, Ryan Hall, Kyle Hall, Joshua Dubie,
Charles Hall, Jeremy Hall, Brian Hughes, Monica Hughes,
David Opfer, Matthew Opfer and Amanda Opfer; his
great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Hughes, Breanna Hughes, Alex
Hughes and Kayla Hughes; two brothers, Jack Hall of Goodman, Mo.,
and Bud Hall of South Bend; and by a sister, Louella Barber
of Boulder, Colo.
Charles graduated from New Carlisle High
School. After graduation, he went into the Army to proudly serve
his country in World War II where he received a Victory Medal and
an Occupation Medal. He also served in the U.S. Air Force in the
Korean War where he received many more medals and distinguished
honors. He flew over 184 missions during his enlistment. He
remained a reservist until 1965. He retired from the brakes
division of Bendix in 1979. Charles was a lifetime member of the
Chain O'Lakes Conservation Club, American Legion Post 50, VFW
9820, Avalon Grotto, Masonic Temple, and he served as a Boy Scout
leader for many years. Charles had a great love of his family and
friends. He was a lover of nature and wildlife and spent many
years in conservation. He loved to go fishing, have family
cookouts, and enjoyed walking his dog, Charlie. He will be
greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main
Street, Mishawaka, Ind. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill
Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be
