George A. Hallaert
MISHAWAKA - George A. Hallaert, 84,
of Maudlin, SC, formerly of East 13th Street, Mishawaka, passed
away at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, SC, on Friday, January
19. George was born on September 25, 1922, in Mishawaka, as the
son of Erene and Alice (Vergaeghe) Hallaert. George was
preceded in death by his parents, and by a son, James.
On January 16, 1943, in Mishawaka, at St.
Monica Catholic Church, he married the former Rose Kuharic,
who preceded him in death on September 18, 2002. Surviving George
are a son, Michael (Peggy) Hallaert of Mauldin, South Carolina;
and four grandchildren, James (Robin) Hallaert, Jennifer (Scott) Tonkavich,
Scott (Debra) Hallaert and Angela (Jack) Brown; and five
great-grandchildren.
George was a member of St. Bavo Catholic
Church, the BK Club and VFW Post 360. He was a United States Navy
veteran, where he served his country during WW II. He loved to go
fishing and to travel; he had been in every state except Alaska
and Hawaii. He was a loving man and will be missed by all who
knew him.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
p.m., with wake prayers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, in
Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January
25, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England
officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola. Memorials may be made in George's name to the charity of
donor's choice.
