Shirley M. Hakes

March 10, 1924 - Sept. 11, 1999

Shirley M. Hakes, 75, of Early Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 4:51 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, in her residence.

Shirley was born on March 10, 1924, in Oak Park, Ill., and had resided in this area since 1946. She worked as a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital for many years.

On Nov. 3, 1943, in the chapel at Breezy Point Navel Air Station, Norfolk, Va., Shirley Morgenroth married Robert F. Hakes, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen Dalrymple of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son, Philip M. Hakes of Elkhart, Ind.; three grandchildren; and by a sister, Leatrice Strauss of New Harbor, Maine.

Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Robert F. Hakes, Jr., in 1952.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. today. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
