MISHAWAKA - Barry Louis Hahaj, 67, passed away on Thursday, March
25th, in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, South Bend. Barry was born
on December 24, 1942, in South Bend, to Benedict and Mary
(Bueche) Hahaj. He was preceded in death by his father. On May
18, 1968, in Mishawaka, he married the former Elaine K. Michele.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Hahaj of South Bend; his loving
wife, Elaine; two daughters, Melissa (David) Grover of Mishawaka
and Michele (Christopher) Saunders of San Diego, CA; four
grandchildren, Abbey and Katherine Grover, Michael and Matthew
Sanders; two brothers, Eugene (Judy) Hahaj of Fort Wayne, IN, and
Ben (Chris) Hahaj Jr. of Berrien Springs, MI; and a sister,
Nanette (Herb) Gunett of South Bend. Barry worked for AM General
for 33 years before he retired in 2006. He played the trumpet in
various bands in the area. As a veteran he was proud to play Taps
for military funerals. He loved to garden and take care of his
roses. Barry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church,
Mishawaka. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
friend. Barry was a veteran of the United States Army National
Guard. Visitation for Barry will be held on Monday, March 29th,
from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 in the Hahn Funeral Home,
505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 30th, in St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial
will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with military rites
by the VFW Post 360/American Legion 161 burial team. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made
to Milton Adult Day Services, 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN
46617; or to the Mishawaka High School Scholarship Fund. To leave
