John M. Hager, 82, of Wakewa Avenue, South
Bend, Ind., died at 12:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, in his
residence. John was born on Sept. 17, 1916, in South Bend, to
Walter A. and Harriet B. (Campbell) Hager. John was preceded in
death by his parents, Walter and Harriet Hager; and by two
brothers, Donald and Walter Hager.
On Jan. 22, 1942, in South Bend, he married
Jean C. Reyniers, who also preceded him in death on April 17,
1998. He is survived by three daughters, Ann B. Thomas of Auburn,
Ind., Betsy and her husband, Marty Kelly of Granger, Ind., and
Judy and her husband, Mark Spurgeon of Denver, Colo.; a son, John
W. Hager of Indianapolis, Ind.; and by nine grandchildren,
Jeffery and Michael Hager of Louisville, Ky., Conner Burk of
Indianapolis, Erin and Nathan Spurgeon of Denver, Patrick and
Brian Kelly of Granger, and Brad and Jessica Thomas of Auburn;
and by a sister, Esther H. Rieder of South Bend. John was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, the Psi Upsilon
Fraternity, St. Joseph Lodge No. 45, F&AM Scottish Rite
Valley of South Bend, the York Rite.
Visitation for John will be from 2 to 6 p.m.
today, Sept. 27, at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William
Street. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28,
at the First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main Street, with
Rev. Dr. Elwood K. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Riverview
Cemetery. Contributions in John's memory may be made to Hospice
of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
