Virginia Hafstrom, 89, of the
Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of
Washington Street, passed away at noon on Wednesday, March 24, in
the nursing center. Mrs. Hafstrom was born on Nov. 14, 1909, in
South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong resident.
On June 17, 1952, in South Bend, as Virginia
Janiszczak, she married Carl Hafstrom, who survives.
She is also survived by her nieces and
nephews, Gene (Claire) Risley of South Bend, John
(Margaret) Madaras of Las Vegas, Nev., Art (Gertie)
Madaras of Tucson, Ariz., Sister Consuella of San Diego, Calif.,
and Pat (Bill) Fries of Mesa, Ariz. She was preceded in
death by three sisters, Gladys Evans, Hildegarde Kaman
and Lillian Madaras; and by a brother, Kasimer Janiszczak.
Virginia was a member of St. Patrick
Catholic Church. She loved children, fishing, crocheting and
playing cards.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, March 27, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix
Drive. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 309 S. Taylor
Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
