SOUTH BEND - Rudolph J. Hafstrom, 86, of Lilac Road, died at 5:47 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Hafstrom retired in 1969 from Koontz-Wagner Electric Co. after more than 44 years of service as an electrician. He was born Sept. 30, 1907, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On May 18, 1957, in Angola, Ind., he married Cleo Longfellow. She survives with a daughter, Karen Njus of Elkhart; a son, John M. Reed of Cassopolis; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marguerite Hertel of South Bend and Thelma Hunter of Mishawaka; and a brother, Carl G. of South Bend. He was a member of American Turners.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or any charity.
