GRANGER - Mary S. Hacker, 83, died Friday Feb. 22 at
Arborwood Retirement Center, Granger, following an illness. She
was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Mishawaka to Alexander and Alexandria
(Stasula) Sykonnyk who both preceded her in death.
On September 8, 1945, in Mishawaka, she
married Armond W. Hacker, who preceded her in death on Nov. 3,
2005, along with a son Gregory Alan, who died in 1969. She is
survived by two children, Cheryl (Don) Blemker of
Newburgh, Indiana and Gary (Mary) Hacker of Mishawaka. Also
surviving are a sister, Tillie Winrote of South Bend, two
brothers, John (Helen) Moshak of Skokie, Illinois and
William (Cathy) Moshak of Mishawaka; her grandchildren, Douglas
Blemker, Jason (Jennifer) Hacker, Adam (Monica) Hacker and
Jennifer Blahnik; five great grandchildren, Riley, Skyler, Jacob,
Liam and Kaleb along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by a brother Anthony Moshak and her sisters,
Kate VanHuffel, Rosa Mitchell, Olga Grubbs,
Annie Grzeskowiak, Helen Mikulyuk, Pauline Jerzak,
and a grandson Michael Vergon.
Mrs. Hacker worked in the accounting
department for Uniroyal Corp. until her retirement. She was a
member of the Rosary Societies at both Saint Pius and Saint
Matthews Catholic Churches, the Uniroyal Ladies Club, and a
Campfire Leader. Her family was very important to her, and she
especially liked being with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren. She and Armond were avid Notre Dame Fans and often
traveled to out of town football games. Her other interests were
sewing, quilting, playing cards, and reading.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, on Monday February 25,
at 10:30 a.m. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at
Bubb Funeral Chapel and for one hour prior to the Mass at Saint
Pius X Catholic Church on Monday. Burial will follow the services
at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Saint Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice
of St. Joseph County.
