MISHAWAKA - Catherine Elizabeth Hacker, 96, passed away on
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Fountainview Place, Mishawaka. She
was born March 9, 1912, in Mishawaka, to Gertrude Emma (Peterson)
and Harry Elmer Suders. She resided at Tanglewood Trace,
Mishawaka.
She married Willard Robert Hacker (deceased)
of LaPorte on July 23, 1936, in Mishawaka, and had two children,
James Robert Hacker (deceased 1999) and Nancy. Survivors include
her daughter, Nancy (Tim) Henthorn of Mishawaka; grandson,
Patrick (Jennifer) and great-granddaughter, Sierra Nicole of
South Bend; grandson, David (Kimberly) and great-granddaughter,
Catherine Elizabeth of Rolla, MO; grandson, Kevin (Jill) Henthorn
of Woodridge, IL; and loving nieces and nephews. Catherine
graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1929 and received degrees
from Oberlin College (OH) and Bethel College, Mishawaka IN. She
retired in 1977 after a long teaching career with the South Bend
Community School Corporation. She was a member of the Mishawaka
Women's Club and a charter member of the Mishawaka Penn-Harris
Friends of the Library. Her hobbies included drawing and
watercolor painting, reading, needlepoint, traveling, golf, and
swimming. She donated her body to the IU Medical School.
Visitation begins at noon, and a memorial
service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the First
Presbyterian Church, Mishawaka with Reverend Mary Ann Banning
officiating. Donations in Catherine's memory may be made to the
Mishawaka Penn-Harris Friends of the Library or to the First
Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka.
