Mary K. Haase, 80, of South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Friday morning, Jan 2, in her residence. She was born on July 27, 1917, in Whiskey Run, Pa., to Anthony and Catherine (Sechli) Bertig, who have both preceded her in death.

On June 18, 1948, in Benton Harbor, Mich., she married Elmer A. Haase, who died on April 17, 1996.

She is survived by her two sons, Frederick A. Haase of Culver, Ind., and Michael E. Haase of Mount Prospect, Ill.; six grandchildren; a sister, Emma Basarich of Merrillville, Ind.; and a brother, Bill Bertig of Valparaiso, Ind. Mrs. Haase was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Guild.

Friends will be received at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and one hour prior to services at 11 a.m. on Monday in the church at Faith Lutheran Church, 156 S. Lombardy, South Bend. Memorials in Mary's memory may be made to the church or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
