SOUTH BEND - Ralph C. Gushwa, 77, of 1005 E. Fairview, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 11, 1903 in North Liberty and had lived in South Bend most of his life.

On Dec. 25, 1925 in South Bend, he married Irene Erhardt, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Ralph W. of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Joan Riffel, of Mishawaka; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. Sunday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral Home. Rev. John Smith, pastor of the Broadway Christian United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. He was a retired supervisor of accounts payable department of the Studebaker Corp., and was a 41-year employee.
