Mary J. Gulyas, 79, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Saint Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind. Mrs. Gulyas was born on April 25, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Stephen and Mary (Vargo) Nemeth, and was a lifelong resident of the area.

As Mary J. Nemeth, she married Emery Gulyas, who preceded her in death on July 25, 1971. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen M. Gulyas. Mrs. Gulyas is survived by six children, Mary Kaye Gulyas of South Bend, Becky (John) Miller of Osceola, Ind., Emery Gulyas Jr. of Mishawaka, Rosalie J. Gulyas of South Bend, Kathy Jo Sieczko/Gulyas of South Bend and Louie Gulyas of South Bend; five grandchildren, Kathy Lynn, Jamie, John Michael, Emery and Adam; a great-grandchild, Courtney Lee Ann; and by two sisters, Irene Vanslager and Shirley Radecki, both of South Bend. Mrs. Gulyas was a parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church, South Bend, and was a member of the St. Theresa Society of South Bend.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 12, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 3:30 p.m. parish Rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in St. Stephen Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
