SOUTH BEND - Stephanie Grygiel, 82,
of Irvington Ave., South Bend, Ind., died at 1:05 p.m. Friday,
Jan. 10, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Mrs. Grygiel
was born May 6, 1914, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area
resident. As a graduate registered nurse, she worked a number of
years at Holy Cross Hospital, Chicago, Ill. She sweetened and
nourished the lives of many by helping her husband produce and
pack honey and sell it at the Farmer's Market in South Bend. She
was one of the original founders of the Holy Family Ladies Rosary
Sodality, helping to organize and build Holy Family Church.
She was married on May 29, 1937, at St.
Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, as Stephanie Juszczak,
to Stanley W. Grygiel. Mr. Grygiel survives with a daughter,
Diane H. (William) Mondt of Michigan City, Ind.; one son,
George R. Grygiel of South Bend; two grandsons, Gregory A.
Grygiel of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ronald J. Wamser of
Michigan City; a sister, Florence Winkel of South Bend;
and a brother, Ted Jusczak of South Bend. A granddaughter,
Georgia Ann Grygiel, preceded her in death in 1984.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m.
Monday, Jan. 13, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will take
place in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home where a parish rosary will
be said at 6:30. Mrs. Grygiel was a member of the Rosary Sodality
of Holy Family Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be
made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South
Bend, IN 46637-3437, or to the Youth Group of Holy Family Church,
56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619.
