SOUTH BEND - Ruth Opal Grossnickle, 97, of Butternut Road,
South Bend, passed away of natural causes at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday,
April 2, 2008, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on
October 1, 1910, in Whitley County, to Thomas and Mabel Gray.
She was united in marriage to Raymond L.
Grossnickle in Whitley County on December 20, 1927, who preceded
her in death on December 15, 1967. She was also preceded in death
by a son, Robert Grossnickle. Ruth was employed at H.D. Lee
Company for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Miller
of South Bend; one son, Leon Grossnickle of White Lake, Michigan,
and his wife, Elaine; seven grandchildren, Tina Blankenship,
Rick (Betsy) Grossnickle, Mark (Jennifer) Grossnickle, Kathy
Grossnickle, Michael (Shirley) Grossnickle, Jeffery (Kathy)
Grossnickle and Angelique Kiourtsis; 14
great-grandchildren, Zachary Blankenship, Jacob Blankenship,
Charlie Blankenship, Ted Grossnickle, Meg Grossnickle, Alyssa
Grossnickle, Andrew Grossnickle, Tonya (Erik) McDanel,
Mark Wagner, Jennifer (Jerry) Beringer, Crystal Hamilton,
Steven Grossnickle, Jeremy (Jenny) Bynum and Sade Neal;
eight great-great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Cassidy Beringer,
Jonathon Wagner, Dylan and Haley Grossnickle, Amber, Allissa and
Ashley Hamilton.
There will be no visitation. The family is
gathering for private services. In loving memory of Ruth,
memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The
Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
