Jack V. Grittani, Sr., 59, of Crestview Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness at 5:01 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 25, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Grittani was born on March 24, 1940, in Mishawaka, Ind., as the son of the late Anthony and Carmela (Zarino) Grittani.
On Sept. 28, 1957, in St. Casimir Catholic Church, South Bend, he married the former Joan Swartz. Mr. Grittani is survived by his wife, Joan of 42 years; a daughter, Frances (Paul) Saros of Mishawaka; a son, Jack V. Grittani, Jr., of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Jaci, Paul "Bubba," Jake and Jack "J.D."; also surviving are his in-laws, who he considered to be his own family.
Mr. Grittani was employed by White Farm Equipment for 20 years, and was also employed by Mastic, South Bend. He was a St. Joseph County Crossing Guard at Swanson School, South Bend. He enjoyed his grandchildren, sports, coaching, many things including Post #50, Babe Ruth baseball and umpiring many of his grandchildren's games. Mr. Grittani will be cherished and missed by all that have known him. He was also a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 28, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 29, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. Derick Sneyd officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
