MISHAWAKA - Wanda Lee Griggs, 82, residing in Georgetown, KY,
formerly of Mishawaka, went to be with the Lord at 3:30 a.m.
Monday, April 19, 2010, at Dover Manor, Georgetown. She was born
August 24, 1927, in Knott County, Kentucky, the daughter of Tony
and Minnie (Coffee) Nipper. On May 5, 1948, in South Bend, as
Wanda Nipper, she was united in marriage to William Thomas
Griggs. She is survived by her son, Roger (Kathy) Griggs of
Union, KY; two daughters, Sheila (Thomas) Halsaver of Niles, MI,
Petrina (Gaylord) Vanguilder of Georgetown, KY; seven
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, James
Nipper of South Bend. She was preceded in death by two sisters,
Lurlene Rice and Dorothy Thomas. Wanda lived most of her life on
Pokagon Road in Mishawaka. She worked at several professions,
including owner-operator of Wanda's Beauty Salon for 15 years,
head cashier at A&P in Mishawaka, did modeling for Benton's
Dept. Store in South Bend, and later worked at the University of
Notre Dame. Wanda was a member of Osceola General Baptist Church.
She was a wonderful, devoted, loving mother to her children. She
will be dearly missed. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday,
April 22, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka
Ave., South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at
St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive
friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
