MISHAWAKA - Lucille Rose Mary (Macrelli) Griffin, 83,
finished her lifelong journey here on earth and went home on July
9 to her eternal reward after a long, courageous battle with
cancer. She passed away peacefully with John B. Griffin, M.D.,
husband of 59 years, and family by her bedside. Cherished mother,
she is survived by her six children, Nancy Strader (Bill),
Susan Griffin (Dave), Carol Frueh (Alan), John Griffin
(Valerie), Janice Salvetti-Haga (Steve) and Stephen
Griffin (Lorrie); loving sister to Mary Meixel, and
brothers, Ralph Macrelli and Joe Macrelli, both who preceded her
in death; devoted Nonna to her 10 grandchildren; and aunt to many
nieces and nephews.
Lucy was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on June
2, 1924, of immigrant Italian parents. Lucy attended St. Mary's
College in South Bend where she pursued her passion in art. She
met her husband-to-be, John B. Griffin, a student at Notre Dame
University. They married in 1948 while he attended Northwestern
Medical School. Lucy, a very skilled artist, brought beauty into
the world through her artwork. Family and friends delighted in
receiving her hand-painted cards and paintings. There was no
greater happiness for Lucy than being surrounded by all her
children and grandchildren at big family get-togethers. Lucy had
great inner strength, faith and stamina. Her loving personality
remained strong throughout her final weeks.
We believe that Lucy is now embraced by
Divine Love so we are filled with calming joy. Nonna Lucy will
remain in our hearts forever. Services of a Catholic funeral Mass
will be performed in Holy Trinity Church, Cameron Park,
California. Final interment will be a companion niche with her
husband John at the Notre Dame University Cemetery.
