SOUTH BEND - James J. Griffin, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:30 PM Thursday, August 7, 2008, in his home. He retired in 1982 from ARCO Construction in Elkhart, IN, following more than 20 years of service. He was born on August 29, 1918, in Durnval, TN, to Obie and Amanda (Huddleston) Griffin, and had lived in South Bend since 1958, coming from Tennessee. In June 1951, in Hanner, Mississippi, he married Ella Wee Griffin, who preceded him in death. Mr. Griffin is survived by two sons, Kenneth Griffin and Everett "Charles" Griffin, both of South Bend; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruth and Willie Bee, both of Ripley, TN, Ada Mae of Brownsville, TN, and Hattie Mae of New Jersey; and a brother, Willie Griffin of Detroit, MI. One sister, Josephine, and four brothers, Clinton, Lee, Lee Frank and Pete Griffin, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, August 15, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN. The family will receive friends from 11 AM Friday until time of services. Contributions in memory of James J.
