Cleo Luevater Griffin, 74, of 1224 W. Washington Street, died on Sunday, Aug. 27, of an illness since 1997. She was born to Sadie B. Dean on Dec. 16, 1925, and stepfather, Aaron Dean, in Little Rock, Ark. She moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1944.

She married Jerry C. Griffin in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Albert Griffin in 1983; a brother, Fread L. Dean of South Bend; her mother, Sadie B. Dean in 1995; her stepfather in 1990; and by a brother in 1978. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Frank Turner Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., Jerry C. Griffin Jr., Kenneth L. Griffin, Herman D. Turntine Griffin, all of South Bend, and a daughter, Laverne B. Griffin of South Bend; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation services will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 1032 W. Washington Street, South Bend. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, in the Progressive M.B. Church, 1232 E. Bronson Street, South Bend. The CLARK-O'NEAL FUNERAL HOME is entrusted with services.
