Gordon W. Griesinger, 82, of Anzio Avenue, died Tuesday, March 2, in the home of his daughter.
After the war, Gordon was employed as a printer with the Associates, and later as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1985 with 29 years of service. He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Tamarack Mills, Mich., to August C. and Emma (Breiter) Griesinger, who preceded him in death, along with a son, Christopher in 1958. He moved to South Bend, Ind., at a young age. In 1940 he joined the U.S. Navy in order to see the world. He served in the Asiatic Theatre aboard the USS Marblehead (the Galloping Ghost of the China Coast) and was honorably discharged in 1946.
On Sept. 25, 1954, he married Margaret Mary Horwarth, who died Oct. 4, 1991. Surviving is a daughter, Marie Griesinger; three sons, Gordon, Joseph and Andrew Griesinger, all of South Bend; three grandchildren, Katie, Laurie and Peggy (who were all graduates of "grandpa's school").
In 1961 he completed his high school education and received his diploma from South Bend Central High School. He was also very proud of having completed over 30 credit hours of course work at IUSB in the 1970s. He enjoyed model railroading, the circus, Notre Dame, good laughs, gardening, swimming, and landscape painting.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
