SOUTH BEND - Robert J. Greenwood, 95, residing in South Bend,
passed away at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009, in his home.
He was born June 25, 1914, in Granger, IN, the son of John and
Eva (Fuller) Greenwood, and remained a lifelong resident of the
area. In 1938 Robert married Stella Stefanski, then in 1967 he
married Florence Anderson, then in 1987 he married Georgia
Palmer, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his
daughter, Joyce (Arthur) Tetzlaff of Stevensville, MI; son, Jay
(Diana) Greenwood of Granger; and extended children, Betsy
(Terry) Garner of Mishawaka and Susan Parma of Dallas, TX. Robert
is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jill (Bob) Bonnell, Jim
(April) Tetzlaff, Cara Greenwood, Adam Greenwood, Nicole (Scott
Rosenberg) Parma, Kim (Andy) Bonham, Steve (Chere') Garner, Jo
Anne (Doug) Perry, Brandt Anderson, Jane Anderson and Tina
Tetzlaff Wallis; and 11 great-grandchildren, Corey, Zack and
Jacob Tetzlaff, Ben Wallis, Madeline, Elizabeth and Georgia
Perry, Damon Parma and Alexis, Sam and Avery Garner. Robert was
preceded in death by one son, Tom Anderson; one daughter, Jeannie
Mutz; two grandchildren, Rick Tetzlaff and Michelle Parma; one
great-grandchild, Megan; two sisters, Ada Beck and Ruth Fisher;
and two brothers, Ernest Greenwood and James Greenwood. Mr.
Greenwood bought his first grocery store in 1940 on the corner of
Ironwood and State Road 23. He built Greenwood Super Market
across the street in the late 1940s. He then sold his several
supermarkets in the late 1960s and joined Scot Lad Foods. In the
early 1970s, Robert purchased Concrete Products before retiring
in the late 1970s. He enjoyed finance and entrepreneurship.
Robert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was also
a 60-year member of the Morris Park Country Club and loved to
golf. He dearly loved the farm where he grew up. But, most of
all, he loved his family. He was a quiet, big man and a true
gentleman. His great wit and sense of humor will be missed by
all. Funeral services for Robert will be 11:00 a.m. Monday,
October 19, 2009, in Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 S.
Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Entombment will follow at St.
Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call today,
October 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home -
Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Special thanks
