NEW CARLISLE - George P. Greathouse,
77, of Avalon Drive, died at 6 a.m. Sunday in the home of his
son, Robert, of County Road North 900 East. Mr. Greathouse
retired in 1980 as a truck driver for Dallas & Mavis, South
Bend, after 17 years, and was formerly a driver for Seneca
Petroleum for 15 years. He was born March 1, 1918, in Lincoln,
Ill., and moved to New Carlisle in 1949 from Evansville.
On March 11, 1948, in South Bend, he married
Irene Pap. She died Sept. 19, 1986. Surviving with his son
are two daughters, Carol Damaron and Linda J. Greathouse,
both of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren; and two brothers,
Raymond and Albert, both of Evanston, Ill. He was an Army
paratrooper during World War II and was a member of American
Legion Post 297, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2394, Rolling
Prairie, Disabled American Veterans, Michigan City, Teamsters
Union Local 364 and Teamsters Union Local 142, Gary.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St. Burial will be in New
Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in
the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to DAV.
