Bernard George Gray

Bernard George "Babe" Gray,
90, of South Taylor Street, South Bend, Ind., and formerly of
Dick Street, Niles, Mich., died at 11:43 p.m. Saturday, July 17,
in Regency Place Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, South
Bend, after a brief illness. He was born April 24, 1914, in South
Bend, to Stanley G. Gray and Anna Swartz. He lived most of
his lifetime in South Bend, but also lived in Niles.
Mr. Gray was retired after several years of
service at the Fruehauf Trailer Service and also worked at
Studebaker, both in South Bend. Mr. Gray was a member of Our Lady
of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend. On May 8, 1937, in
South Bend, he married the former Wyoma L. Pruett, who
died on Nov. 23, 1990. He later married on March 18, 1994, in
South Bend, to Helen B. (Tschida) Madaras, who died
on Nov. 9, 1997. His sister, Doris Cortier, also preceded
him in death. He is survived by stepdaughters, Susan L. (Chris) Darnold
of South Bend and Lynn M. (Dave) Bertman of Mishawaka,
Ind. He is also survived by his grandsons, Chad (Christine)
Darnold, Scott Darnold, Eric (Chassidy) Bertman, Aaron Bertman;
and great-granddaughters, Makayla Darnold and Kendall Bertman.
The family will gather privately for services. There will be no visitation or public services. Arrangements were made by the Halbritter Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of Bernard George Gray may be made to Our Lady of Hungary School, South Bend.
