Mr. Benjamin Tucker Gray, 66, beloved
father, grandfather and brother, who resided on North Edison
Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life following an illness
at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, in his residence. He was born
to the union of General and Hattie (Thomas) Gray, Sr., in
South Bend on May 9, 1933. He was employed by the Bendix
Corporation and retired in 1989. He was honorably discharged from
the United States Marine Corps in 1958 after serving in the
Korean Conflict, and was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Gray leaves to cherish his memory four
daughters, Beverly (Everett) Maxwell and Barbara Gray,
both of South Bend, Bridgette Gray of Battle Creek, Mich., and
Brenda Gray of Miami, Fla.; six sons, Benjamin (Meechie) Gray,
Jr., of Battle Creek, Bradford Gray, Glen Brown, Barry King
and Brian Winston, all of South Bend, and Nathaniel Dozier
of Indianapolis; five stepchildren, Rita, Jackie, Kimberly,
Chauncey and Wayne, all formerly of South Bend; 20 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Hamilton
of South Bend, Kathy Gray and Bobby Jean Gray, both of Flint,
Mich.; three brothers, General Gray, Jr., of South Bend, Randy
(Queenie) Gray of Miami, Fla., and Melvin Gray of Flint, Mich.;
along with a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded
in death by four sisters, Sylvia Gray, Bertha Jenkins,
Mildred Clay and Dorothy Jamerson; and by two brothers,
Lincoln and Preston Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Thursday in Pentecostal Cathedral Church. Interment will follow
at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on
Wednesday in Alford's Mortuary, where arrangements have been
entrusted. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of
St. Joseph County.
