MISHAWAKA – Rene J. Graveel, 78, of 501 W. 6ths Street, proprietor of Graveel Mustard Co., died at 9 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend. He had been a resident of Mishawaka since 1906 coming here from Bellem, Belgium where he was born March 21, 1889.

He married Augusta DeMeester in South Bend July 10, 1916. The DeMeester Mustard Co. was started here in 1901 by Mr. Graveel’s father-in-law. In 1941 the name was changed to Graveel Mustard Co. and he became proprietor.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. John Lang of Mishawaka and a brother August Graveel of Arlington, Ill.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Chapel where friends may call. Rev. Stephen Cvangia, pastor of St. Bavo’s Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.
