Raymond Gerard Graveel

Raymond Graveel, 65, of 553 W. 8th Street, a retired Mishawaka policeman, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lee Memorial Hospital. Dowagiac, after an apparent heart attack. Born in Mishawaka Dec. 23, 1913 he was a lifetime resident of the city. He retired from the Barcliff Industries after 25 years of employment and retired from the city police force after 21 years of service.

 

On April 24, 1937 in Mishawaka he married the former Julia VanHoedt. She survives alanog with three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Hopkins of Hanay, Germany, Mrs. Katherine Berger of South Bend and Patricia at home; two sons, James of Portage, Mich. and John of Lafayette; nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Margaret) Brockhaus and Mrs. Robert (Geneivieve) Thieren, both of Mishawaka. A son Richard died in 1975, and a brother Joseph in 1971.

 

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church. Rev Stephen Cvangia, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

 

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91, the BK Club, DeAmecis and St. Bavo’s Servers Clubs, Knight of Columbus Council 1878 and St. Bavo’s parish. Memorial contributions may be made to Sister Ann’s class at St. Bavo School.
