Paul Francis Graf

In loving memory of Paul F. Graf,
beloved father, grandfather, and brother. Mr. Graf, 79, a
resident of South Bend, Ind., died on Tuesday morning, Aug. 13 in
St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend.
Mr. Graf was born July 10, 1917, in Notre
Dame, Ind.
On Feb. 3, 1945, he married Harriet G.
Wozniak, who preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1980. Mr. Graf is
survived by two sons, John Robert Graf of South Bend and Paul
Michael Graf of Wayne, Mich.; two daughters-in-law, Mariellen J.
Graf of South Bend and Brenda Graf of Wayne, Mich.; three
grandchildren, Joseph, Danielle, and Felicia Graf, all of South
Bend; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Jane Graf of
Mishawaka; and a sister, Anne Ades of South Bend.
Mr. Graf was a member of the Holy Name
Society of Christ the King Catholic Church, also a charter member
of the above, said, church. He was a member of the Knights of
Columbus and the American Legion. He served in the Armed Forces
during World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Dec. 8,
1941, the day after Pearl Harbor. He served as a bombardiMer,
flying 49 missions over Italy and South Africa, after training in
Colorado. After being injured in the war, he married Harriet C.
Wozniak at the Veterans Hospital in Chicago, Ill., in February of
1945. Mr. Graf graduated from Washington Clay High School, where
he was a star forward on the school's basketball team, which won
the Regional Championship during his senior year. Mr. Graf
enjoyed playing cards and listening to the ''Big Band'' era
music. Before joining the military, he enjoyed going to area
dance clubs with Harriet before they were married. He also
enjoyed listening to Brother Pedro Herring's radio broadcast
three nights, every week.
Visitation will be at Hickey Funeral Home,
17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, between 4 and 8 p.m., Friday,
where there will be a wake service in the funeral home at 7 p.m.,
with a rosary to be recited immediately following. The funeral
mass will be in Christ the King Catholic Church, at Darden and
Business 31, 11 a.m. Saturday. There will be a procession to
Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, with a luncheon following
at the church at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to
the St. Joseph County Right to Life or to Christ the King
Catholic Church.
